Description

Kew Science and Gardens Visit

Kew Science has three strategic priorities:

  •         To document and conduct research into global plant and fungal diversity and its use for humanity
  •          Provide data rich evidence from Kew’s collections as a global asset for scientific research
  •          Disseminate knowledge

We have the opportunity to be shown Kew Herbarium by a scientist explaining the collections and answering our questions :

Kew Herbarium:

  • ·         Contains preserved specimens documenting the identity of plants
  • ·         Has a reference collection of 7 million specimens, used for identification, research and biodiversity .
  • ·         is a centre of information network for scientists around the world, open to researchers by appointment only.

Following this a researcher will give a talk, and answer questions on the work of Jodrell Laboratory

Jodrell Laboratory houses staff from several scientific departments e.g. comparative plant and fungal biology and conservation science, who contribute to Kew’s strategic outputs.

The researcher will discuss their research work in the context of Kew’s science strategy and strategic outputs.
